The Urge to Protect

There are times
when the temptation to reach out
and steady those we love,
wing tip to wing tip,
can be overwhelming.

Assist them
in avoiding harm
without disruption
of freedom and zest.

To protect.

The risk,
of throwing balance
off its ever shifting perfect point,
resides in the wing touch.

The challenge is
to step away.

Be the spotter.

Enjoy the show.

And, be able to see what’s coming
in time to roll out of harms way,
not into it.
Of course this only works
if you are present.

A week ago today, while dashing for a runaway grocery cart, my husband tripped. Unfortunately his forehead made very hard contact with the cart handle, rearranging things a bit, before he hit the pavement. Others nearby gathered calling 911, providing support, a wet towel for pressure, ice pack and monitoring his situation until members of the Gig Harbor Fire Department arrived.

When I got there he was ready for transport to the hospital where a great doctor and team masterfully stitched my guy back together again. He is now doing well; sporting a look that goes perfectly with his well honed pirate AARRRGGG. Wallace Beery aka Long John Silver of “Treasure Island” fame, would be proud.

We are so very grateful for all who, without knowing Rick, didn’t hesitate to provide quick thinking and kind support to someone in need. May that kindness be returned to you tenfold.

Hope is the Thing with Feathers

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all
And sweetest in the gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm
I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea
Yet, never in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Tending the Shadow Rows

I woke to shadows and light;
each shape change of the covers
creating a new landscape
dreamily
reminding me of crop rows
planted straight and true.
Fortunately I got up
before the farm equipment arrived.

This, the last of a few vacation days, found me at the pivotal point where I'd almost forgotten what day it is and whats waiting at work. Near disconnection. Ah, but something wacky in computerdom placed tomorrows date in the corner of my screen. Not noticed until this afternoon, I had a few circle pacing moments of panic. It made farm equipment tending the shadow rows of the bedspread seem a "bit" less bizarre. Not sure if I should have taken more or LESS time off? Probably more...

4th Metaphor

We are multi-layered
short term creatures.
By nature,
as we strive we fray.
With each new exposure
we learn and review options...
move forward, pause or step back.
Incremental decisions
creating histories.

I'm grateful to be here
in this country
through the review and decisions
made by the branches of my family
three hundred and some years past.

Grateful they came across the seas,
stayed,
held up,
did not step back
during times of fray.

They and others like them
saw the solid layers of possibility
beneath the tatters
and understood the sense
of sound mending.

Thinking of them
on this 4th day of July
in the year 2011.

Whoa It's April

In one instant it seems, time moved from "Breathe, it's March" to "Whoa it's April". Between the work schedule slipping into high speed, some side projects, learning my way around updated gear and a tussle with the flu...well, March just flew by. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say, I'll be more sporadic this spring, before becoming just that. We are redefining Spring with our volume of rain fall. Things will grow with the shades of green that bring smile lines thanks to this rain.
So, on this most moist April 1st, mid the biz, I took a sec after taking a sip, shot a pic which tempted a quip about the Scotsman Bell whose phones now click pics from wireless slips in a sec of the year two thousand and eleven. A fine time to be alive.
Happy April Fools Day to you and Alexander! Bless him.

The Weather is Calm

In mirrored reflection
even a slim and heavily stocked walkway
can provide a bit of dreamy character.

The day is weather calm so far.
I'm heading out for Sunday morning errands
and hoping to catch another place or two
where dreams settle on the water.

Happy Sunday Morning All!
